Hardy Palakona Split Cane Trout Fly Rod
Vintage Two Piece Hardy Palakona Trout Fly Rod, "The Fairchild".
A superb example of a Hardy of Alnwick trout fly rod, "The Fairchild," measuring 9 ft and crafted in split cane. This two-piece rod is in good used condition with spare tip, burgandy silk whippings, suction joint, wooden stopper, adjustable alloy universal reel holder and 24 cm cork handle. It carries the registration number A90465, firmly dating it to 1914, and is housed in its canvas partition rod bag with Hardy label. Its fittings include agate butt and tip rings, intermediate snake rings, silk whippings, and bronze ferrules with secure suction joints. The rod bears the elegant spiral inscription: "The Fairchild, Palakona, Regd Trade Mark".
The three pieces measure 140 cm, 133 cm & 127 cm (as you can see, one tip is slightly smaller than the other).

These rods are very light and at the same time powerful enough to kill fairly large trout.
