17th Century Oak Dresser Base

A magnificent 17th-century oak dresser base, measuring an impressive 8ft in length, with a beautifully aged surface and wonderful depth of colour.

The dresser has a substantial moulded rectangular oak top, above four drawers arranged across the front. The two outer drawers are particularly generous in size, with the drawer fronts incorporating a central division that gives the appearance of two drawers, while the two smaller drawers sit neatly between them. The drawers retain their attractive brass drop handles and are framed by a finely moulded front.

The base is raised on four distinctive turned and block supports, with shaped decorative brackets between the legs, giving the dresser a pleasing sense of balance and architectural character.

With its exceptional length, substantial oak top and naturally mellowed patina, this is a particularly impressive piece of 17th-century English country furniture. Equally suited to a traditional kitchen, dining room or large entrance hall, it offers both considerable decorative presence and useful storage.

A superb period dresser base, full of the warmth, character and individuality associated with early oak furniture.
