Signed Snaffles Equestrian Print - Finest View in Europe
Finest View in Europe and Worst View in Europe are widely regarded as Charles "Snaffles" Johnson Payne's most famous pair of equestrian prints. Offered here is the titled lithograph Finest View in Europe, signed in pencil by the artist in the lower right-hand corner.
The composition is presented from a first-person perspective, placing the viewer in the saddle of a grey horse. In the foreground, the horse's head is visible with its ears pricked forward as it approaches a cut-and-laid fence. Beyond the fence, a huntsman and a pack of foxhounds race across a Leicestershire hunting field, capturing the excitement and energy of the chase. The remarque in the lower left-hand corner depicts a fence-layer raising his hand, waving a billhook, and calling out.

This work by Charles "Snaffles" Johnson Payne (1884-1967) remains in good original condition and is housed in its original black wooden frame, complete with the Snaffles blindstamp (a bridle bit) positioned above the signature.
