Trout Fishing Triptych by Douglas Adams.
A superb trout fishing triptych by the celebrated British sporting artist Douglas Adams (1853-1920), comprising three fine photogravures taken from his original paintings. Beautifully capturing the atmosphere and character of Highland angling, the scenes are presented in a triple-aperture mount within the original oak frame.
Each photogravure depicts a different moment in the angler's experience and bears a known title: Plate I - Selecting the Fly, Plate II - Got Him at Last, and Plate III - A Good Three-Pounder. Together, they form a charming visual narrative that celebrates the skill, patience, and excitement of trout fishing.
Set against dramatic Highland landscapes, Adams' compositions bring the scenes vividly to life. His masterful handling of light, detail, and atmosphere conveys both the tranquillity of the riverbank and the anticipation of the sport. Two of the images are in landscape format, while the third is in portrait orientation, creating an attractive and well-balanced display.
Published by Frost & Reed of Bristol in 1899, with copyright registered, these photogravures are excellent examples of late nineteenth-century sporting art.
