Antique Leather Portable Cellarette with Three Hipflasks.
A distinctive and unusual antique portable campaign cellarette, combining refined craftsmanship with practical functionality. Beautifully constructed and fully clad in leather, this charming piece reflects both durability and timeless appeal.
Rooted in the tradition of the cellarette, literally meaning "little cellar", it embodies the purpose of early portable wine and spirit storage. Cellarettes, particularly those crafted during the early Victorian period, were designed to store and protect bottles, often featuring fitted interiors, brass handles, and secure locking mechanisms.
This example is fitted as a practical and highly usable set, comprising three leather-covered flasks housed within a matching leather carrying case. Each flask features a cut-out viewing panel, allowing the contents to be easily identified, and is topped with an ornate silver-plated screw cap, both decorative and secure in use. The caps are monogrammed "JCM" and the lid of the leather case is also embossed the the same initials.
The main case is designed with a hinged lid and strap-and-buckle fastening, opening to reveal three individual compartments that hold the flasks snugly in place. An adjustable shoulder strap adds to its portability, making it ideal for travel or outdoor occasions.
A charming and well-crafted antique, perfectly suited for collectors, display, or continued practical use, whether for picnics, holidays, or traditional country pursuits.
