Vintage Plaster Trophy Salmon Fish Model.
A striking vintage life-size plaster trophy salmon fish model, mounted on an oak rectangular backboard. This impressive ¾ block salmon is beautifully sculpted with finely detailed dorsal, adipose, pectoral, pelvic and anal fins, together with a well-formed tail fin, capturing the natural elegance and power of the fish.
Expertly painted to a high standard, the salmon features rich naturalistic greenish tones with a darker shaded head, subtle graduated colouring along the back and a soft cream-coloured belly, creating a wonderfully lifelike appearance. The quality of the modelling and finish make this a superb example of late 20th-century craftsmanship.
Although unmarked by the maker, the piece retains its original applied ivorine legend plaque, inscribed: Caught by C.R. Pantall, 4th April 1970 in Rock Cottage Pool, Middle Ballingham, River Wye, 36¼ lbs., Girth 34", Length 47", Caught on Brown & Gold Spinner 3".
An evocative and decorative sporting piece with strong country house appeal, ideal for collectors of fishing memorabilia, sporting art or traditional interior décor.
